You have a business, you created a website and you want things to just flow from itself, but this doesn’t happen yet? Don’t be disappointed because there are a lot of solution offered by our experts to help you promote and get the right strategies for your business. One of the best solutions is to use AMP – Accelerated Mobile Pages to rank faster on Google, but first, we should learn what Accelerated Mobile Pages – AMP is.
What is AMP and how does it work?
You may be familiarised with some of these terms, but to make things clear we will say that AMP is a way to build web pages for static content that render super fast for mobile devices, it means Accelerated Mobile Pages.
AMP in action consists of three different parts:
- AMP HTML
- AMP JS
- Google AMP Cache
AMP HTML is HTML with some restrictions for reliable performance and some extensions for building rich content beyond basic HTML.
The AMP JS library ensures the fast rendering of AMP HTML pages.
The Google AMP Cache (optionally) delivers the AMP HTML pages. All of these things are created to help the customer discover the benefits of using his mobile when looking for your business.
AMP is a Google-backed project with the aim of speeding up the delivery of content through the use of stripped-down code known as AMP HTML. Put simply, AMP Accelerated Mobile Pages is a way to build web pages for static content (pages that don’t change based on user behaviour), that allows the pages to load (and pre-render in Google search) much faster than regular HTML.
Nowadays, the internet has reached new heights and almost everybody uses the internet every day. There are available the 2G, 3G and 4G connections, but the most used are 2G and 3G. The smartphones are taking the lead in the mobile phones market and many people use their smartphone to search the internet, use the social networks and other things that require the connection on the internet.
Why should you use AMP?
For you as a business person, it is important to make your customers access your website and the AMP option comes as a solution for both you and your clients/readers. Google is behind AMP as you may know by now and is pushing it very hard for Blog sites, News Sites to implement AMP. Because the web is low for a lot of people, AMP makes the pages load instantly on your mobile phone. AMP restricts what you can do in HTML pages. Custom design is stripped out in favour of speed because the speed is what matters most when searching over the internet. Google is also giving priority to AMP optimised Blog or News sites in mobile search results. More and more sites are beginning to use Accelerated Mobile Pages AMP because if your news site or blog isn’t optimised with AMP, you won’t get any of that juicy traffic created using the mobile.
AMP HTML is designed to improve both the speed and readability of content, meaning the code used is heavily stripped-down. Thus, there are some visual limitations to this approach, which are as follows:
- No JavaScript will be allowed other than an off-the-shelf AMP library
- Images will only load when you scroll down to them
- A streamlined version of your CSS will be required.
How to implement AMP to your website
For most Blog and News sites that run on WordPress – there is an awesome yes you guessed it WordPress Plugin by Automattic that enables AMP for your site:
Once you have installed the plugin it will set up all the blog posts URL with an /amp/ version of your posts. You can access AMP – Accelerated Mobile Pages posts quite easily by adding /amp/ at the end of any post on your website. It’s also important to mention that the plugin adds Meta tags in the header of your websites for Google and other search engines to crawl and register the newly AMP optimised posts.
This AMP plugin by Automatic (the guys behind WordPress) has no settings at all for styling or customising its very basic and only using your site’s logo.
There is one caveat we noticed on testing this plugin that in order for the /amp/ posts to show you do need to reserve your permalinks. So you simply head over to Settings >> Permalinks then you hit save, you’re done your website should be all set up with AMP.
Additionally:
There is a somewhat new plugin from Yoast SEO that allows you to set the look and feel with your brand colours called Glue for Yoast SEO and AMP. I haven’t tested this one yet so I am limited to explain how it works, once I have tested it I will update the post, just thought to mention it.
